We are swooning over Korea this morning. It was the women who led the pre-emptive assault on the USA pummeling them 9-6. AMERICA BEWARE: KOREA IS A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH! Yeah I can just see Eujong Kim in those serious glasses taking a paddle to the assess of anyone who disobeys her. Yes ma’am. You take those points. Thank you ma’am. I’ll sweep harder ma’am.
Men’s Draw 10: Korea/Switzerland
The Korean men were next on stage but with the affable disposition of a K-Pop boy band. Kim Changmin is of course the lead singer, but Seong SeHyeon (backup vocals and part-time guitar) is the favourite with all of the teenage girls with his distinct reverse cowlick mop hairstyle. I’m sure they are lined up outside the arena screaming for his autograph, he did get a round of excited squeals for his sweeping in the 9th end.
Once the Olympics is over they’ll be heading out on tour with their hit single I’ll go the extra end for you:

(don’t worry, in Korean it rhymes and is quite catchy)

(Also, can we just point out the detailed white stitching on their Fila navy pants is the spot on balance of function and style? Shows it off without being a show off. Demure.)
Game synopsis: A big miss by Switzerland in the 3rd end with their last stone blowing through the house left it open for Korea to draw for 3 and an early lead. But Kim Changmin’s draw came up short in 5th end to give those points back to Switzerland in a steal. Tied in the 10th, Korea executes a perfect draw for the win.
As for Switerland – is it just our imagination or are DeCruz and Shwartz trading ends to throw skip stones? Makes sense. Vers tops.
More importantly this match up marked the magical turning point in a curling tournament when the teams settle in and the personalities start to shine. You could really see that the two teams felt at ease and enjoyed playing the game. It’s like reaching that special point in any relationship when you can fart under the covers and laugh about it. From here on in the curling is going to get really fun to watch. It’s what differentiates good curling from great curling.
Now we know it’s not just a schoolgirl crush, it’s love.
